Yet Nov. 26, Thanksgiving Day, arrived with growing optimism and a feeling of hopefulness among many Americans. The economic outlook was finally, slowly getting better in places like Bloomington-Normal, especially when compared to the darkest days of the Depression. After all, four years earlier dozens of area banks collapsed, and things were so bad that Illinois Wesleyan University accepted farm produce in lieu of tuition. That year, 1932, saw the election of Franklin Delano Roosevelt, whose first-term New Deal relief programs provided jobs for millions of unemployed Americans. A little more than three weeks before Thanksgiving 1936, FDR trounced Republican challenger Alfred M. “Alf” Landon to earn a second term in the White House. By this time several of Roosevelt’s New Deal “alphabet agencies” had a heavy presence in McLean County. For example, around 2,000 Work Projects Administration employees in the county were given the Nov. 26 holiday off —though M.L. Houser, McLean County WPA supervisor, noted that the lost time would be made up later. Okay, enough with economics and politics and onto more important things —like the 1936 Thanksgiving turkey! At this time, “mom-and-pop” corner groceries were still found in every neighborhood in the Twin Cities, though regional and national chains were beginning to make significant inroads. By Thanksgiving 1936 there were eight Piggly Wiggly grocery stores in Bloomington-Normal selling “scientifically fed and fattened” Cimco Farm turkeys for 27 cents a pound. Twenty-seven cents a pound may sound like one heck of a bargain to us today, but it’s actually the equivalent of $6.09 in inflation-adjusted 2024 dollars, since $1 in 1936 would be worth around $22.55 today, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. In 2024, the American Farm Bureau Federation says a 16-pound turkey costs $25.67, on average, or about $1.60 a pound. In other words, today’s turkey cost about one fourth of one carved and served in 1936. Seeger’s Groceries and Meats, located at the corner of Morris Avenue and Jackson Street (and one of no less than 110 local Twin City groceries in 1936), sold fancy, northern U.S. No. 1 prime turkey for 29 cents a pound, and fresh oysters for 25 cents a pint. Although department stores and other retail outlets did not open their doors for pre-“Black Friday” sales, plenty of restaurants and other businesses were open and crowded with local residents and visiting friends and family. Billing itself as “Bloomington’s finest restaurant,” the Green Mill Cafe, 212 W. Washington St., offered an expansive Thanksgiving Day dinner for 65 cents. The menu included chicken gumbo or okra soup, roast young tom turkey with chestnut dressing, baked Watertown goose, chicken fricassee, broiled lamb chops, homemade hot mince pie, burnt almond ice cream, and other delectables. For many Americans in 1936, Thanksgiving Day also meant attending a worship service. At Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Bloomington, three young out-of-town priests, Raymond Schueth, Edmund Sweeney and Leo F. Dee — all former members of the parish — conducted Thanksgiving Mass. Trinity Lutheran Church in the old German South Hill neighborhood held both German-language and English-language services. Traditionally, the Community Thanksgiving, a nondenominational service sponsored in part by the Bloomington and Normal Ministerial Association, served as the main public observance. The annual program emphasized the holiday “as an American tradition, shared equally by persons of all creeds and races.” The 1936 Community Thanksgiving was held at Second Presbyterian Church in downtown Bloomington. The program, attended by some 700 area residents and guests, included music by the 50-strong Philharmonic Society chorus, with Cliffine Ball as soloist. The featured speaker was Burris A. Jenkins, a progressive Disciples of Christ minister from Kansas City, Mo. His address, “Let’s Build a New World,” included a 17-point social justice program infused with the optimism and lofty goals of the New Deal. Jenkins called for less emphasis on profit and more on “creative and cooperative living”; the distribution of wealth to reduce inequality; the right of workers to unionize; “tolerance and justice between racial and religious groups”; and “repudiation of war, the construction of peace machinery and gradual disarmament.” Much like today, football was an integral part of Thanksgiving for many Americans, though back in 1936 several local teams were in on the action. There were 1,500 hardy fans at Bloomington High School’s athletic field to watch the hometown boys battle the visitors from University High to a 6-6 tie. “U High’s hopes for a clear-cut victory went glimmering in the closing minutes of the game when Johnny Blum missed a field goal from the 15 yard line,” reported The Pantagraph. Though this “frigid melee” ended in deadlock, Bloomington retained possession of the Wollrab trophy, given annually to the intercity gridiron champs. And the Illinois Wesleyan University Titans, Illinois Intercollegiate Athletic Conference champions, were in Ruston, La., pitted against Louisiana Polytechnic Institute (now Louisiana Tech University). Unfortunately, the Yankee visitors fell 12-0 before 6,000 spectators at the “Tech Bowl.” Billy Shelper’s Home Sweet Home City Rescue Mission, then located in the 200 block of South Main Street, served Thanksgiving meals to more than 600 adults and children. “In shifts of 200 each,” reported The Pantagraph, “they feasted on young turkey, roast beef, baked chicken, mashed potatoes, corn, peas, noodles, cranberries, ice cream, cake, cookies, candy and several kinds of bread — and sauces.” Meanwhile, over at the McLean County jail some 35 inmates enjoyed a dinner of fried chicken and all the fixings. “The number of prisoners, reduced just before the holiday, is expected to increase Friday as it does after every holiday,” noted The Pantagraph. That’s true, because in addition to turkey, church and football, this American holiday has long been associated with liquor, both its use and abuse. And indeed, in 1936 10 “Turkey Day tipplers” were arrested for drunken and disorderly conduct. One west-side resident charged with drunken driving plowed into four parked autos on the 1300 block of North Lee Street. Takesha Stokes talks about the Thanksgiving food giveaway at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church. The 98th Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade coverage is slated from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. EST Thursday, Nov. 28. This year's event will feature 28 clown crews, 26 floats, 16 giant balloons, 11 marching bands, five performance groups, three "baloonicles"—cold-air inflatables driven down the parade route, and numerous performers. Stacker curated a selection of photographs from the past century of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade to help illustrate the history of the iconic event. The parade in New York City, presented by department store chain Macy's, was first held in 1924 under the heading "Macy's Christmas Parade" to promote holiday sales and spotlight the newly expanded and, at the time, largest in the world Herald Square store in Manhattan. The success of the event led organizers to turn the spectacle into an annual tradition. Each year, the parade ends outside the same Herald Square Macy's location. The event has been televised nationally since 1953 on NBC. The parade at first featured Central Park Zoo animals escorted by Macy's employees and professional entertainers for 6 miles from 145th Street in north Manhattan's Harlem to Macy's. A quarter of a million onlookers lined the streets. Real animals were replaced with balloons in 1927; that same year, the name of the event was changed to Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. The longest-running parade float is the event's unofficial mascot, Tom Turkey. Tom features moving wings, head, and eyes and usually functions as the lead float in the parade. Bringing up the caboose in virtually all the parades is Santa Claus who ushers in the holiday shopping season with his arrival at Macy's Herald Square. The parade offers a glimpse into pop culture of the time, from beloved children's entertainment to hit Broadway shows and musical acts. The Radio City Rockettes, formed in 1925, have performed in the parade annually since 1957. In 1933, the outside temperature was 69 degrees F, the warmest it's been; 2018 was the coldest day in parade history at 19 degrees F. In 2022, for the first time, the event featured a trio of women hosts. Today, more than 44 million people tune in to watch the parade. Keep reading to learn more about the parade's history and see some iconic shots of the event. That year floats, bands, and Central Park Zoo animals were featured in the procession. At the parade's end, Santa Claus was crowned "King of the Kiddies" on Macy's balcony at the 34th Street entrance. Macy's quickly announced the parade would be an annual event. The large balloons that replaced live zoo animals in 1927 were filled with regular air and had no release valves—they were simply let go to pop in the air following the parade. 1928 marked the first year of Macy's inflating balloons with helium to allow them to float. They were also outfitted with valves so the helium could gradually escape rather than waiting for the balloon to inevitably pop, and featured a return address so anyone who found them could return them and receive a reward. In this photo from 1928, a 35-foot fish and 60-foot-long tiger were featured prominently in the parade. A $100 prize was offered for each balloon recovered after its release. The Thanksgiving parade enjoyed rapid growth throughout the 1930s, with more than 1 million revelors lining the parade route in 1933. In this 1931 photo, a giant hippopotamus balloon makes its way down Broadway. A blue hippo balloon—possibly this one—released after the parade was still at large several days later, thought to be somewhere over the Atlantic Ocean. In this image, the Felix the Cat balloon is led down Broadway by its four handlers tailed by Terrible Turk and Willie Red Bird. The original Felix the Cat character balloon made its parade debut in 1927, but was destroyed after its post-parade release by a high tension wire in 1931. The Terrible Turk also was destroyed the same year by an electric sign. In 1932, Macy's Tom Cat balloon got stuck in the propeller of a plane when the aviator flying the plane tried recovering the balloon for a reward. While the plane eventually landed safely, that event marked the final year of releasing balloons after the parades and offering prizes for their return to Macy's. Pinnochio, Tin Man, and Uncle Sam make their way along the parade route in 1939. Mickey Mouse made his debut five years earlier with a balloon designed in part by Walt Disney; Mickey's handlers were also dressed as mice. New iterations of Mickey appeared over the next 70 years as the character evolved. The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade was canceled from 1942-1944 because of supply shortages during World War II, namely helium and rubber. Festivities returned in 1945. The Christmas classic "Miracle on 34th Street" was released in 1947 and prominently features actual footage from the 1946 parade. 1948 marked the parade's first network television broadcast. Throngs of onlookers pack the sidewalks in Manhattan's Times Square during this 1955 parade. Mighty Mouse, an animated superhero created by Terrytoons, is seen in the back left of the photo. Mighty Mouse made his debut in the Thanksgiving Day parade in 1951; he appeared in 80 short films between 1942-1961. Popeye makes his way through Times Square in the 1959 parade. A year earlier, another helium shortage meant balloons were inflated with air and hung from construction cranes to make their way through the parade route. Also in 1958, the first celebrity performances were added with the Benny Goodman sextet. Live music proved a challenge technically and logistically. The parade was transitioning to the now-familiar lip syncing by 1964. The iconic peacock float makes its debut in this photo of the 1961 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. The year marks the first balloon featuring Bullwinkle Moose and the first year for floats with Pinocchio, The Racetrack Grandstand, Cinderella, Peacock, Ferris Wheel, Brigadoon, Meet the Mets, and Santa's Sleigh. Several years later, in 1968, Macy's creative team figured out how to design floats up to 40 feet tall and 28 feet wide that could fold into 12.5-by-8-foot boxes for strategic transportation from New Jersey to Manhattan via the Lincoln Tunnel. In the coming years, safety concerns troubled '90s-era parades—namely the wind. Strong gusts in 1993 pushed a Sonic the Hedgehog balloon into a Columbus Circle lamppost that broke and hurt a child and off-duty police officer. Four years later, intense winds caused a Cat in the Hat balloon to hit a lamppost, hurling debris into the air that fractured the skull of a spectator who spent 24 days in a coma. The incident, among others, led then-New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani to form a task force. The Soaring Spirit Canoe float, pictured here in 1995, made its debut in the parade in 1986. Popular '90s balloons included Bart Simpson, Cat in the Hat, and The Rugrats. South Korea's suspended president Yoon Suk Yeol authorised the military to fire their weapons if needed to enter parliament during his failed bid to impose martial law, according to a prosecutors' report seen by AFP on Saturday. The 10-page summary from former defence minister Kim Yong-hyun's prosecution indictment report, which was provided to the media, also says Yoon vowed on December 3 to declare martial law three times if necessary. Yoon, who was stripped of his duties by the National Assembly this month, is under investigation for his short-lived attempt to scrap civilian rule, which plunged the country into political turmoil and led to his impeachment. Yoon's lawyer Yoon Kab-keun dismissed the prosecutors' report, telling AFP it was "a one-sided account that neither corresponds to objective circumstances nor common sense". As lawmakers rushed to parliament on December 3 to vote down Yoon's martial law declaration, heavily armed troops stormed the building, scaling fences, smashing windows and landing by helicopter. According to the prosecution indictment report, Yoon told the chief of the capital defence command, Lee Jin-woo, that military forces could shoot if necessary to enter the National Assembly. "Have you still not got in? What are you doing? Break down the door and drag them out, even if it means shooting," Yoon told Lee, according to the report. Yoon also allegedly told the head of the Defense Counterintelligence Command, General Kwak Jong-keun, to "quickly get inside" the National Assembly since the quorum for the martial law declaration to be lifted had not been met. Yogi urges youth to contribute to nation buildingFace tattoos have been slowly gaining popularity what with artists like 6ix9ine, XXXTenacion, and other famous names that defy literacy wearing them. Even in Japan where all tattoos still have somewhat of a lingering stigma to them, you might spot the rare face tattoo here and there. That being said, face tattoos like the one on Masashi Echizenya are quite rare. So much so that his perp walk on the TV news showing him staring right at the cameras with a tattoo of a snake wrapped around most of his face and what appears to be a grill is easily the most striking one we’ve seen in Japan all year. ▼ A news report on the arrest: It’s worth sticking around for the CGI re-enactment. The 49-year-old Echizenya was arrested after an incident on 15 November in which he is suspected of shoplifting and assault. The store clerk suspected him of stealing items, causing him to run out of the store. The clerk went in pursuit and Echizenya allegedly headbutted him in the face multiple times. The serpentine suspect then fled again, dropping a bottle of coffee and two baked goods in the process. Most people reading this will probably not be shocked that such a man could be capable of this crime. However, when reporters interviewed his neighbors in Tokyo, they generally thought of him as a mild-mannered guy. “I would bump into him in the laundry room,” said one neighbor, “and at first I was really surprised, but when he talked he was always soft-spoken and quite polite.” Another neighbor admitted that he looked like a tough guy but always greeted people in a cheery voice, saying, “He didn’t seem like a bad person. He just looked like one.” The testimonies that Echizenya comes across as a big old softy are supported by the fact the store clerk actually bothered to chase him. As a general rule, if a guy with a snake tattooed on his face did that on my watch, my minimum-wage-earning butt would stay firmly behind the counter and call the police. After all, the guy’s pretty easy to give a description of. So, it would seem that this clerk was under the assumption he could have apprehended the suspect but instead ended up with injuries that are expected to take two weeks to recover from. Meanwhile, Echizenya is exercising his right to remain silent in police custody for the time being, leaving readers of the news unclear about what his deal is. Nevertheless, there’s a general agreement that the facts of the case speak for themselves. “It really shows you the power of a polite greeting.” “I know it’s wrong to have a bad impression of people with tattoos but I’d be scared if that guy greeted me.” “That face is a good life hack to keep you on welfare the rest of your life because no one’s going to hire you.” “Maybe he could be a TV personality. Guys with faces like that usually have some interesting stories.” “He might really be a good guy, but how can you not judge him by that appearance?” “His greeting would have to be inhumanly cheery for me not to be terrified of him.” “Maybe he’s like that guy in Ushijima the Loan Shark who had to get the tattoo as a punishment.” “He’s going to have to do a little better than just saying hello to win me over.” “It’s really hard to fit into Japanese society looking like that. He was probably just broke and hungry.” “Being nice like that is just a standard beggar’s technique. That’s all.” Following his arrest and these comments, subsequent investigations by both the police and media found that Echizenya was indeed a notorious mooch among the larger community. He was reportedly often seen standing by vending machines and calling out to passersby for 100 yen to buy a drink, bumming cigarettes off anyone he could, and just making people uncomfortable all around. A look into his social media presence also revealed that in addition to the snake tattoo and grill, he had his tongue surgically forked. Amazon India is racing to launch its quick commerce delivery service, codenamed Tez, by late December or early next year as it looks to join the booming sector that notched up gross sales of about $5.5-6 billion this month led by Blinkit, Zepto and Swiggy Instamart, multiple people aware of the details told ET. Earlier, the US giant was aiming to roll out the service in the first quarter of 2025 but is now keen to accelerate the process, they added. More so, as it is the only large ecommerce firm without a presence in what is India’s fastest growing online business. The launch of Tez in India—which is only a working title for the proposed business—will mark Amazon’s first foray into the quick commerce business globally. According to people briefed on the plans, the matter will be discussed in the next monthly review slated for the first week of December—ahead of its annual Smbhav event. The company is expected to start the service with groceries and daily essentials. An email sent to Amazon India did not elicit any response till press time Sunday. While Amazon India has its own delivery network in India, it has also engaged with other logistics players for quick delivery services. ETtech Quick moves Flipkart—Amazon’s arch-rival in India—launched its quick service, Minutes , before the start of this year’s festive season sales during September-October and has since scaled the service in major cities. Also in the fray is Tata-owned BigBasket, which has made a shift to the quick model, and has clocked over Rs 900 crore in gross sales last month, people in the know said. Meanwhile, Tata Digital—which runs Tata Neu—has also rolled out its own quick commerce service Neu Flash , which was first reported by ET on October 28. Amazon had discussed a potential deal with Swiggy Instamart before the food delivery company listed on the bourses in early November. The rush of capital into the quick commerce sector has only added to all the platforms scaling their operations aggressively. Last week, Zepto raised another $350 million , adding to its over $1 billion cash-pile while Zomato , parent of Blinkit, has also secured shareholder nod to raise another $1 billion through QIP. “We expect the quick commerce market size to overtake that of food delivery in 2026 in terms of gross order value (GOV). Given a larger addressable market, despite high competition, we see scope for each player to grow materially over the next 3-5 years. The challenge of growth and market share loss comes when the overall market itself has matured,” Morgan Stanley said in a note earlier this month on quick commerce and Zomato-Blinkit. “Overall download share of quick commerce apps has increased in the last 6 and 12 months relative to ecommerce apps, as per third party data,” it said. The report estimated a bear and bull case for the quick commerce market at $25 billion and $55 billion, respectively, by 2030. The projections indicate a similar rise in key metrics like households using ultra-fast delivery, monthly transacting users and their frequency of quick orders. Quick commerce is expected to be just under $7 billion in size for 2024. “In our assumptions, we have assumed that high frequency or high value users would increase from one third to almost half of the total platform and they would account for almost 75-80% of the total value of the business by 2030,” the Morgan Stanley note added on its outlook for 10-30 minute delivery services. Amazon India changes Meanwhile, Amazon India has seen a change of guard at the top with company veteran Samir Kumar taking over the India head role following Manish Tiwary’s exit . The local arm of the US firm is also moving its Bengaluru headquarters in January closer to the airport in the city where the total rent outgo will be less. This is in line with the broader changes in Amazon India where it is looking to curtail costs at various operating metrics. Walmart-owned Flipkart continues to be the market leader in the ecommerce sector besides others like Meesho, Tata Neu and Reliance JioMart also operating in the sector. In FY24, Amazon’s India marketplace unit posted a 14% jump in operating revenue at Rs 25,406 crore while also cutting losses by 28% during the year to Rs 3,469 crore. While this is higher than the 3% revenue increase in FY23, it still lagged growth rates seen during the pandemic period, when revenue grew by 32% and 49% in FY22 and FY21 respectively. Its other India units—payments, transportation— saw a modest 7-9% revenue growth while there was a marginal dip in its wholesale business.
Despite the challenges in contract negotiations, Barcelona remains hopeful that a resolution can be reached with Sergi Roberto. The club values the player's contributions and sees him as an integral part of its future plans. Both parties are expected to continue discussions in the coming weeks in an effort to find common ground and secure Sergi Roberto's services for the long term. Many people long involved in global climate negotiations see the annual United Nations COP climate talks as fundamentally flawed. That includes me. On Sunday, the 29th round of talks finished in Baku, Azerbaijan. It was likely my 25th COP. I have attended these talks in many different roles, but largely as a climate negotiator for the Australian government. These days I attend in my academic capacity. COP29 did not achieve a breakthrough. It led to a modest increase in climate finance for developing nations and agreement on carbon market rules. But many issues were kicked down the road . COP talks are slow. And the once-a-year meetings are seen as “win or lose” moments, which complicates the dynamics. Oil states and lobbyists work to avoid mention of quitting fossil fuels. Host nations need a win, leading to “commitments” which may not lead to substantive change. Ahead of this year’s talks, major climate figures called once more for reform to the COP process. But however flawed, COP meetings are the only way to get the world’s nations in the same room to hash out what to do about climate change. In recent years, global leaders have been distracted by COVID, the Ukraine-Russia war and now the Middle East. But climate change is only worsening. It won’t be long before real world events pull our attention back to the single largest threat we face. Why do these talks matter? Since 1995, the COP talks have acted as the main driver of global action on climate change. These talks will continue to matter until the transition to clean energy is complete and the burning of fossil fuels is no longer routine. Climate change has a one-word solution: investment. Every day, companies and governments invest money. They either invest it in status quo technologies which make carbon pollution worse, or they invest in cleaner alternatives. What the COP talks do is help change the direction of investment. You can see this working very clearly in how much is now being invested in green energy, electricity grid upgrades and energy efficiency – double that for new fossil fuels. (Unfortunately, if you include fossil fuel subsidies , the picture is very different.) Last year, nations finally included text about the need to transition away from fossil fuels. It was hard-won. But this year, diplomats from Saudi Arabia and petrostate allies were able to block any mention of this. The text on fossil fuels was not binding. But it was influential in boardrooms where decisions on investment are made. Process over progress? The way the COP talks are set up are not ideal. A new country is chosen every year to take on the presidency role and host the summit. The talks run for a fortnight and the agenda is vast. This year, the hosts, Azerbaijan, struggled to keep control of the agenda. As a result, issues such as the Global Stocktake – which included the calls to quit fossil fuels – were kicked down the road to COP30 in Brazil in a year’s time. Because these talks are just once a year, everything crowds into them. It is very messy. Every June, climate negotiators meet for an inter-sessional meeting before the next COP talks in Bonn, Germany, where the UN Secretariat on Climate Change has its headquarters . At these meetings, we often see efforts to walk back announcements made at the formal COP talks. Sometimes these are successful. Every delegate sent to COP talks has two reasons for going. The first is because their government is to some extent committed to solving the great problem of climate change. Five or six nations might not be, but that leaves over 190 who are. The second reason is to protect their national interests. You can, of course, do both. But this brings up a hidden issue. Many people who attend become, in my view, focused on the process, not the outcome. Twice a year, they travel to the COP itself and the Bonn intersessional, where they will meet friends and colleagues. It has become routine. The process has become, for some, the point. Every year, a new nation hosts the COP talks. This year, thousands of delegates headed to Baku, Azerbaijan. Milosz Maslanka/Shutterstock Five ideas for change COP talks are flawed but necessary. Could we improve them? Here are five ideas: 1. Break up the negotiating process Meetings of COP subsidiary bodies in cities where most nations have established diplomatic missions. These bodies could meet more regularly, creating pressure and momentum for more speed and outcomes. 2. Change COP presidency arrangements At times, the nation hosting the talks tries to control outcomes as much possible. But this is an all but impossible task. A better option might be to rely on the negotiators from each nation who do most of the work – and make them accountable for achieving outcomes. 3. Make regional meetings more important COP is big. Hundreds of countries, thousands of delegates, and many from civil society and business. It’s very difficult when everyone tries to talk to everyone. Much better progress would come if the thrust of COP talks was devolved to smaller, more regular regional meetings. 4. Gather more ambitious countries There have been several gatherings of nations wanting to do more, faster on climate change, such as the High Ambition Coalition . These gatherings can help stimulate action among like-minded leaders. But they need sustained leadership to be effective. 5. Direct action by the largest emitters In 2015, the Paris Agreement set a joint goal of keeping climate change below 2°C. It was the high water mark for COP talks. Before this agreement was signed, top emitters China and the United States found common ground on climate in direct talks, despite intensifying geopolitical jostling. This helped Paris succeed. In 2025 under President Donald Trump, the US will walk off the climate action stage again. But China is now feeling more confident in shouldering a climate leadership role. What about preventing oil states from hosting these talks, as prominent climate movers and shakers have called for ? You can’t easily shut out countries who have signed treaties and agreements. The solution here is to organise better. Oil-state pressure doesn’t have to win. While oil rich Azerbaijan’s presidency of COP29 drew scepticism, there was no sign that its leaders wanted the process to fail. Needed: renewed political will Ten years ago, it felt like the world was largely united on climate. But while the Paris Agreement has helped avert the worst emissions scenarios , it has not yet led to a single year of declining emissions. Climate change has, by any measurement, slipped down the global list of urgent issues. That will change as more calamitous impacts arrive. Howard Bamsey has attended many COP talks in Australian government, United Nations and non-government rolesIn defense, Schiller has opted for a solid backline featuring seasoned defenders who stood out in Round 15. The defensive quartet of Jones, Smith, Brown, and Johnson showcased their defensive prowess, thwarting opposition attacks and providing stability at the back. Their resolute performances were instrumental in keeping their opponents at bay and earning valuable points for their teams.
