The Minnesota Twins acquired infielder Mickey Gasper from the Red Sox on Tuesday, sending left-hander Jovani Moran to Boston. Gasper, 29, made his major league debut in 2024 with the Red Sox, going hitless with four walks and one run in 18 at-bats over 13 games. The switch-hitter spent most of the 2024 season at Double-A Portland and Triple-A Worcester, hitting a combined .328 with 27 doubles, 12 home runs and 58 RBIs in 92 games. The Red Sox selected him from the New York Yankees in the 2023 Rule 5 Draft. A 27th-round pick of the Yankees in the 2018 draft, Gasper has played four positions in the minors -- first base, second base, third base and catcher -- along with serving as designated hitter. In 407 minor league games with the Yankees and Red Sox farm systems, he has hit .275 with 48 home runs and 207 RBIs. Moran, 27, underwent Tommy John surgery after the 2023 season and didn't pitch in 2024. In 79 relief appearances with the Twins from 2021-23, Minnesota's seventh-round pick in the 2015 draft is 2-3 with one save along with a 4.15 ERA, 52 walks, 112 strikeouts and a 1.33 WHIP in 91 innings. --Field Level Media

The year just past has seen incredible leaps in humanoid robotics , and all signs point to a more exciting 2025. The race among tech titans is intense as they strive to create the pinnacle of these ingenious human-like machines. A standout development, Boston Dynamics has launched its new all-electric Atlas model, retiring the well-known hydraulic counterpart. This innovation is seen as a pivotal step towards the commercialization of humanoid robots. The updated version moves in extraordinary ways, hinting at the future’s possibilities where robots perform tasks beyond human physical limitations. For example, these robots might twist their torsos and legs in different directions for optimal efficiency, showcasing their unique abilities and setting companies apart in the competitive market. Chinese company Unitree catches attention with its affordable, compact humanoid robot, the G1, which is less than three feet tall when folded. Unitree differentiates itself with cost-effective two-legged and four-legged robotic solutions. Meanwhile, 1X’s humanoid, NIO, positions itself as a friendly home assistant, aiming for trust and companionship in domestic settings. A key challenge remains robot autonomy . Companies are exploring ways for robots to independently learn tasks, whether through mimicry or advanced programming. Tesla’s Optimus, although showcased at events, operates autonomously only under controlled conditions. This highlights the contrast between publicly demonstrated skills and behind-the-scenes capabilities. As we step into 2025, expect to see more industry alliances, like Boston Dynamics’ partnership with Toyota Research Institute. These collaborations could lead to the next breakthrough in humanoid robotics, blending self-driving car technologies with robotic innovation. The future is bright for humanoid robots! Breakthroughs in Humanoid Robotics: What to Expect by 2025 The field of humanoid robotics is on the brink of transformative advancements, with recent developments pointing to significant innovations by 2025. As technology giants race to lead the market, developments such as Boston Dynamics’ launch of its all-electric Atlas model mark a pivotal shift towards the commercial availability of humanoid robots. Electric-powered humanoids like Atlas now exhibit movements once considered impossible, suggesting a future where robots can perform tasks beyond human physical capabilities. These advanced robots can rotate their torsos and limbs independently, maximizing efficiency and showcasing distinct capabilities that empower companies to stand out in this competitive field. Unitree, a notable Chinese firm, has garnered attention with its affordable and compact humanoid robot, the G1. Its economical two-legged and four-legged options position Unitree as a leader in cost-effective robotic solutions. Meanwhile, 1X’s humanoid robot, NIO, is designed as a domestic assistant, embodying trust and companionship necessary for home environments. While the progress is impressive, robot autonomy remains a major hurdle. The quest for robotic independence involves enabling robots to learn tasks autonomously, whether this is through imitation or sophisticated programming techniques. Tesla’s Optimus, for instance, operates autonomously only in controlled environments, underscoring the disparity between public demonstrations and functional reality. Expect to see burgeoning partnerships in the industry that could accelerate technological breakthroughs. For example, collaborations like that of Boston Dynamics with the Toyota Research Institute are promising. These partnerships may integrate self-driving car technology with robotic advancements, potentially creating a new epoch in humanoid robotics. As we journey into 2025, the humanoid robotics sector is set for exciting evolution, continuously redefining possibilities and expectations for robotics in everyday life. Stay tuned to see how these innovations will shape our future. Her political journey, which was never her initial choice, began in earnest after her husband's arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on January 31 in connection with a money laundering case tied to an alleged land fraud. Despite the personal and political challenges posed by her husband's legal battles, Kalpana has proven to be a resilient and dynamic leader. She became a vocal figure in the opposition to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing the party of being a "tyrannical force" targeting the opposition INDIA bloc. Her leadership became especially prominent during the Lok Sabha elections, where she campaigned vigorously and led the JMM’s efforts in Jharkhand, gaining the support of tribal communities and others. Kalpana’s political rise gained significant momentum after her husband's release from jail and his subsequent return to office as Chief Minister in July. She emphasised that tribals, by their very nature, do not bow to oppression, a sentiment that has resonated with many in the state. Her message has been clear - she stands firm against injustice and dictatorial forces, taking inspiration from her husband’s refusal to compromise on his principles. Kalpana's political journey began on March 4 at the JMM's 51st Foundation Day celebration in Giridih district, where she claimed that a conspiracy had been orchestrated by opponents since the Hemant Soren coalition government came to power in 2019. Hemant Soren was arrested by the ED on January 31 in connection with a money laundering case linked to an alleged land fraud. He resigned from his post before the arrest. Kalpana has been a prominent figure in INDIA bloc rallies in Jharkhand and campaigned for the alliance in the state. She was one of the key speakers at the 'Ulgulan Nyay' rally in Ranchi, attended by leaders of 28 parties on April 21. She won the Gandey bypoll, held in June along with Lok Sabha polls by 27,149 votes over her nearest BJP rival Dilip Kumar Verma and ever since has not looked back. Through her about 200 rallies in assembly elections this time, Kalpana has infused new blood in the party and has emerged as a powerful face. Kalpana, 48, holds engineering and MBA degrees. "I will fight against injustice and dictatorial forces as bowing is not in tribal DNA. I will follow my husband's footsteps. He chose to court imprisonment rather than compromise his values. I am his better half and will see to it that tyrannical forces get a befitting reply," Kalpana emphasises. She terms her husband's arrest by the ED as politically motivated and part of a plan to coerce him to join the BJP. "His arrest was part of a plan by the central government to browbeat, intimidate, and humiliate him, but they will get a befitting reply in the elections," she had said. Kalpana completed her schooling in Baripada in Odisha's Mayurbhanj district and obtained her engineering and MBA degrees in Bhubaneswar. Speculation regarding Kalpana's candidacy arose following the resignation of Ahmad in December, with the BJP claiming it was to facilitate her candidacy in case the ED issued summonses to her husband. The BJP in the state has been attacking Kalpana, saying that Champai Soren was a "caretaker and puppet chief minister" while she was the "centre of power" in Jharkhand. "All of you have reached this far in this great election campaign by shedding your blood and sweat. Every vote is precious for us. That is why we have to maintain our passion and fighting spirit until we get the certificate of victory," she emphasises. Now her luck is sealed in the EVM as she once again contested from Gandey. Kalpana has been making headlines now as Hemant finds himself increasingly facing heat from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a case pertaining to an alleged land scam. As the ED turns up the heat on the CM, Kalpana is set to remain in the limelight. (This story has not been edited by THE WEEK and is auto-generated from PTI)

Newcastle United’s hopes of returning to European football after a one-season absence have been boosted ahead of their Boxing Day home clash with top six rivals Aston Villa. Eddie Howe’s side have reacted well to their disappointing 4-2 defeat at Brentford earlier this month by taking maximum points from a home game against struggling Leicester City and Saturday’s visit to Ipswich Town . There has also been an upturn in United’s form in front of goal after they plundered their way to a combined eight goals in the consecutive victories. Another route to Europe moved a step closer when Sandro Tonali scored twice in last week’s 3-1 win in a Carabao Cup quarter-final tie with Brentford that helped set up a two-legged semi-final meeting with Arsenal . Over the past two years, analysts have scrutinized whether AI companies—both public and private—can sustain their soaring valuations. C3.ai CEO Tom Siebel, a veteran of Silicon Valley who made his mark at Oracle before selling his own company for $5.8 billion, likened the AI craze to the internet boom, where even revolutionary technology couldn’t shield many companies from collapse. “We have this similar thing going on with generative AI that we’ve seen with previous technologies,” Siebel said. “The market is way, way overvaluing.” Assembly Election Results Live Updates Maharashtra Election Results Jharkhand Election Results Bypoll Election Results C3.ai, known for its enterprise AI applications that optimize supply chains, predict maintenance needs, and track sales processes, has a robust roster of clients. The company’s government contracts include partnerships with the U.S. Department of Defense and U.S. Air Force, while its private sector customers include Shell and Baker Hughes. This week, C3.ai expanded its partnerships further, announcing a collaboration with Microsoft, though the interview with Fortune occurred before the news became public. Siebel also took aim at OpenAI, the Microsoft-backed AI pioneer valued at $157 billion after a $6 billion funding round in October. The C3.ai CEO dismissed its valuation and impact, remarking, “Nobody would be surprised if that company disappeared next Monday. MAURA Higgins received a punishing gift from I'm A Celebrity bosses for her 34th birthday. The Love Island star celebrated getting another year older as she woke up in the jungle. Maura said: “Birthday in the jungle! This is definitely going to be one I will never, ever forget.” However, it got off to a cr***y start when new leaders Barry and Danny got the campmates to complete their chores for the day. Birthday girl Maura was left with the chore of cleaning the dunny with Coleen. However, things improved after Tulisa and Melvin won a plate of ready salted Pringles in the Kiosk Kev's Deals On Wheels. READ MORE ON I'M A CELEB The campmates allowed Maura to take a Pringle first, with GK Barry telling her: "What a birthday treat!" However, later, after the campmates had enjoyed their dinner of ostrich egg, there was an unexpected twist in store as a laminate was delivered into camp, as well as a bag of bus tickets. Just before it arrived, the group were discussing why the lights were still on in the jungle camp. GK Barry said: "Predictions... I think we're going to have songs, a little boogy and a bit of birthday cake." Most read in I’m A Celebrity 2024 Tulisa added: "They're not going to do something negative for Maura's birthday. It's only going to be a treat." Read out by Danny, the laminate explained: “Tonight, you will all have the chance to win treats. However, to be in with a chance of winning, you will all need to take a trip on The Fright Bus!” Maura put her head in her hands as Danny began handing out tickets to the bus. "A lot of the campmates are telling me it's not going to be that bad, but I'm s****ing it," Maura said in the Bush Telegraph. She also grilled her fellow campmates on whether they thought the bus could be full of spiders - her worst fear. Each celebrity could win a piece of luggage each from the luggage rack, described to contain holiday essentials, and even a tasty treat during the task. The challenge was simple: the campmates had to endure the bus and work within their rows of three to escape it, passing four stops on its journey. To do this, each row would wait until their stop to manoeuvre three tokens across the bar to the stop button as fast as they could. Every token won, would equate to one piece of luggage. i'm A Celebrity is back for its 24th series, with a batch of famous faces living in the Aussie jungle.
